taralli pugliesi

These are my one of my half Italian husband's favorite snacks. Every time he has to go to Italy on business, he comes home with several bags of these in different flavors. So when I saw that the Bread Baking Babes were making them this month, I had to try. Recipe here. I made a plain salted version, but you can add fennel seeds or chili oil or...the sky's the limit. These are supposed to be small and uniform in shape, but remember, I cook with my two favorite elves and after a rolling out a few small shapes, they realized they could finish faster with bigger. So...we have bigger.

These will be good snacks for the holidays. And now, I need to concentrate on some more Christmas cooking. Sshh, don't tell, but I am making roast venison for Christmas lunch that all my in-laws are coming to chez moi. I was going to cook a more traditional goose, but my mother-in-law is making a "poulard"...big chicken? for Christmas Eve and I didn't want to cook another bird the next day.

Joyeux Noël mes amis! I hope that all your Christmas wishes come true!

Happy Holidays! Joyeux Noel! (I learned that along with just about nothing else in high school French) and ¡Feliz Navidad! (I learned that here in Texas)

Wonderful! I really like that they're all different sizes too. (I was tempted to make large taralli as well as I was struggling to roll out pencil-sized ropes within a 15 minute deadline.)

Thank you for baking with us!

Mmmmm, roast venison! How delicious sounding!

How nice to bake with 'elves'! I have 2 too - last time I made bagels they were keen to help. I think they'd like to make these too.
